Progression in Undertale Soul OPs 2 uses character tiers 0 through 5. Each upgrade costs 1250 coins and expands the fighters available in co-op soul defense—not to be confused with S/A/B meta tiers on our tier list hub. Tier 0 — starters only

At tier 0, your combat roster is the free quintet: Sans, Papyrus, Undyne, Asgore, Toriel. No coin spend required.

New players should clear Getting Started routes at tier 0 before buying tier 1—fundamentals transfer to every unlock.

Tier 1 — first coin branch

Cost: 1250 coins from tier 0 → tier 1.

Tier 1 typically opens early alternate routes—often first access to AU styling such as initial Underfell or Outertale variants depending on current OyunKlavuzu layout. Treat tier 1 as proof you can farm coins reliably, not as endgame power.

Who should buy first: Players who completed normal defend waves and want a visual/mechanical upgrade without Robux.

Skip rush if: You still die to basic soul chip damage—extra DPS will not fix positioning.

Tier 2 — mid roster expansion

Cost: 1250 coins (cumulative 2500 from tier 0 baseline across two steps).

Tier 2 deepens AU branches and may introduce support-lean kits that foreshadow US Papyrus or Dream Sans paths. Power gains are meaningful in pub lobbies if you pick a fighter matching your role.

Cross-link Unlock Characters if the shop shows multiple branch choices—some lobbies force a path pick at tier 2.

Tier 3 — competitive threshold

Cost: 1250 coins (3750 cumulative three-step spend from tier 0).

Many community players consider tier 3 the point where free accounts feel comparable to lightly paid lobbies. Underfell and Outertale kits often land here with sharper kits than starters.

Meta note: Tier 3 unlocks can sit B-tier on the overall list while still feeling strong personally—do not confuse progression tier number with S/A/B rank.

Tier 4 — high-end unlocks

Cost: 1250 coins.

Tier 4 is where names like Gaster Sans, Galaxy Sans, Fresh Sans, and US Papyrus frequently appear in player discussions—exact mapping varies by patch, but this band is when co-op wave clear speeds jump for Attack and Support mains.

Boss context: Beat Gaster groups often expect tier 4+ DPS or equivalent gamepass carries.

Planning tip: If your friend group already runs two Attack mains, buy Support-lean tier 4 picks instead of duplicating Galaxy Sans.

Tier 5 — maximum gate

Cost: 1250 coins (final step to max tier 5).

Tier 5 opens the remaining prestige roster pieces—Jevil and other late icons show up in community comp guides here. Max tier does not auto-complete badge or event collections.
